As I See It

Scott Calls It

Another weekend arrives and another packed agenda of glorious sporting rivalries between overpaid professionals.

I nearly called it on Monday night as the Gers beat Morton; they actually did better than I thought in not conceding! This weekend’s fixture is a home tie vs third placed Falkirk. The Bairns drewlast weekend with lowly Livingston but I’m expecting a fired up side to travel to Ibrox. Falkirk is the kind of team that you know can raise their game for the big occasion, hence why they are pushing the Gers and Hibs all the way in the league.

But they simply don’t have the depth and I’m tipping Rangers for a victory tomorrow. After the December game vs Hibs, the Gers have re-discovered the early season form, which saw our goal difference rocket. Maybe not a comfortable afternoon tomorrow but I don’t think our side will struggle to find the net.

Prediction: 3-0 Rangers

The New York Knicks host the Phoenix Suns tonight at the Garden. The Knicks have had another season of extremes so far but the 22-26 record points to more lows than highs. I’m not going to pretend I’m a super fan or anything but I do keep tabs on results. I see the Knicks winning this, mostly because the Suns suck more. Without Melo, the Knicks are much like Manchester City without Aguero – toothless.

Prediction: Knicks win by 15 or more

The Glasgow Rocks face off against Cheshire Phoenix tonight in the BBL. It’s a home tie but that doesn’t really seem to count for too much in this league. Much like the Knicks, the team seems to go on wee runs now and again but too often are also wildly inconsistent. That being said, they have only lost one in the past five whereas, the Phoenix have only won one in five.

It’s a great setup and I love having the franchise in the city. The new coverage deal with Sky should also see more investment in the league as a whole.

Prediction: Rocks win by 10 or more.

My hometown team East Kilbride FC are in Lowland League action tomorrow against Edinburgh’s Spartans who sit one place in front of our guys. They also have a game in hand so it’s a bit of a must-win if EK don’t want to lose track on the top positions in the league. Although, with a 22 point gap (three games in hand) between EK and Edinburgh City, you’d have to admit the title is a goner.

It is a home game and the added media interest from the Scottish Cup may give a boost to crowd numbers.

Prediction: 3-2 EK

Looking at this weekend’s FA Cup ties in England and I don’t see too many shocks happening. Spurs will see of Colchester. Arsenal will beat Burnley and City will probably thrash Villa.

Two potential upsets could be in Derby this evening if the home side can exploit a hurting Manchester Utd. And as crazy as it would have sounded a year ago, would anyone stake their house on Chelsea winning their game away at MK Dons? No, didn’t think so.

Prediction: MK Dons score the highlight of the weekend: 1-0

The Scottish League Cup is on this weekend. I don’t really care but for what it’s worth…

Prediction: Hibs and Celtic to progress.

The Pro Bowl is also on this weekend. Ditto the above.
